At Bomberos Unidos Sin Fronteras (BUSF), we respond to emergencies and disasters through our Disaster Response Group (DRG). This group consists of a number of specialised units, designed to ensure a comprehensive response in any disaster situation. The units that make up the DRG are:
Our rescue dogs, together with their canine handlers, locate survivors in the rubble after major disasters such as earthquakes. These teams are essential for finding survivors in the so-called “pockets of life”, where every minute counts.
The AMU is made up of volunteer health workers from across Spain, who provide immediate and continuous medical care to disaster victims and take care of the health of rescuers during the dangerous initial phase of the response.
The DWSEU consists of firefighters, technicians and health workers who ensure the supply of safe water to disaster-affected communities, managing basic sanitation and promoting hygiene (to prevent the spread of disease in the post-emergency phases).
Members of this unit transport the necessary equipment and material to ground zero of the emergency and ensure the supply of water and food to all responders. They also assist in the construction of temporary camps for affected families.
Our state-of-the-art aerial, land and water-borne drones locate and assist people trapped in hard-to-reach areas as well as monitoring the evolution of emergencies and collecting crucial data to improve future responses and preparedness.
