Solidarity water programme

Access to safe drinking water is an essential right and an urgent need in many regions of the world. As part of the Agua Solidaria programme, BUSF works to guarantee safe water consumption in vulnerable communities, improving their quality of life and strengthening their resilience in the event of emergencies.

Problems to be solved

In many rural communities in developing countries, a lack of access to a safe water supply is a chronic problem that severely affects the health and well-being of local residents. Reliance on contaminated water sources increases mortality and disease rates, especially amongst children, pregnant women and the elderly. This problem is exacerbated by the lack of adequate sanitation and waste management systems, creating an unhealthy environment that is unsuitable for human development.

In emergency contexts, such as natural disasters, the situation is even more critical as traditional water sources are compromised, making it difficult for affected communities to survive and recover. This health and social challenge severely limits development opportunities, perpetuating cycles of poverty and vulnerability.

Common Objetives

Access to safe water

Community empowerment
Encourage self-management through the training of local institutions such as Drinking Water and Sanitation Administration Boards (DWSAB), promoting the sustainability of the project with the active participation of beneficiaries.
Awareness-raising
Raise awareness of the dangers of consuming contaminated water and encourage the responsible use of water resources.
Hygiene and sanitation
Promote better hygiene practices and sanitary conditions in both private and public spaces, contributing to a healthier environment for communities.

Examples of actions carried out

Loreto, Peru (2004)
We launched the programme in the community of Los Delfines, in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, providing access to drinking water and training local operators on sustainability matters.
Pisco, Peru (2007)
In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, we implemented safe water systems for affected communities, strengthening their long-term recovery.
International projects
We took this initiative to countries including Guatemala, Nicaragua and Haiti, addressing the crisis of safe water in contexts of high vulnerability and emergencies.
